De-risking and its challenges: Korean positions in European electromobility and military supply chains after Russian invasion of Ukraine

CEIAS is implementing a project studying the role of South Korea in European electromobility and defense supply chains.

The project comprises three key components. The first step aims to quantify the extent of trade and investment by East Asian firms in electric vehicles (EVs) and military production within the EU, particularly in light of the heightened emphasis on de-risking. The data-gathering exercise will involve mapping the military and EV supply and value chains within the EU and between the EU and East Asia. This will enable the subsequent identification of the position of Korean firms in the European military and EV sectors and facilitate projections of future developments. In the third step, policy impacts and recommendations will be provided, with a focus on outlining the necessary measures for policymakers to support the competitiveness of Korean firms and sustain their market position in the EU. The policy advice will emphasize recommendations that align with the shared values and strategic priorities of both Korea and the EU.
