The Geoeconomics and Technology Center conducts analytical research at the intersection of geopolitics, trade, and technological innovation.
Economic and technological competition has become a defining force in 21st-century international politics. This is most evident in the escalating trade and regulatory tensions between China and the United States, with Europe and many Indo-Pacific countries caught in the middle—each developing its own regulatory approaches to reflect national interests.
Recognizing the growing significance of geoeconomics and technological rivalry, CEIAS’s Geoeconomics & Technology Center examines how these dynamics shape Europe’s relations with the Indo-Pacific region and influence its global competitiveness.
The Center’s work focuses on economic security and de-risking policies, trade and investment flows, indirect trade exposures and logistics chokepoints, as well as the governance of foreign investment, public procurement, and foreign subsidies. It also conducts research on research security and technology transfers, with a strong emphasis on strategic technologies such as semiconductors, 5G, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, and green energy—areas that are vital to Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.
